Food Access & Affordability
The core of the Health initiative is the building and establishment of The Brady Market, a uniquely operated neighborhood grocery store, to be opened within the near west side. Its main purpose is to provide an accessible place for community members to purchase healthy and affordable food. Food will come from a variety of sources, including the Brady Farm, local farmers, and local food distributors. One of our strategic plans is to partner with distributors to reclaim good quality food that didn’t make it to its original destination on time and needs an immediate home, or from stores that are overstocked. The market will sell staple items such as dairy and bread, bargain items, select household products, meat, To Go prepared foods for lunch and dinner, and catering services.
The Brady Market, the Brady Farm, and the Stone Soup Community Education Garden will serve as components of the holistic health programming effort that enables Brady to support the physical and mental health of our community members. Classes in health and nutrition will also be offered to reduce the health disparities caused by chronic stress, trauma, and lack of equitable food access.
